Happy Birthday Michael Jackson: A Look Back

Today would have been the 55th birthday of legendary pop icon Michael Jackson, and Twitter, along with just about every other social media network out there, is ablaze with well wishes, retrospectives, and opinions about his life.

Everyone is well aware that Michael Jackson epitomized the very definition of celebrity, with extreme career and personal high points, as well as tragic lows.  It was all elements of his both public and private life that left the world forever curious about the star.

But more importantly, Michael Jackson single handily redefined what music, dance, fashion, and art are in pop culture, forever changing the way in which artists and desiring icons present themselves, a feat only one person could have done.  Like him or not, that fact stands true.

Stars like Justin Timberlake, Neyo, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Lady Gaga, and Janet credit Michael as the single greatest living entertainer of all time.  It was Elizabeth Taylor who crowned him with the title "King of Pop," a title that likely will never be taken down.  One would be hard pressed to find a pop star in any subsequent era that wasn't influenced and trying to emote the larger-than-life persona that Michael Jackson had created when on stage.

So while you may or may not have doubts about the scandals and personal woes that surrounded Michael in the later years of his life, let's set that aside and take a moment to enjoy the music... the art that he created that shaped and defined a legacy of pop culture.

Krysten Ritter's Bold Ad for PETA - How Do You React?

PETA isn't know for subtly in their pro-active ads.  Just drive down Sunset Blvd and within 10 minutes you'll probably see a couple billboards towering over the streets with a naked celeb du jour taking a stance against wearing fur.

The newest PETA ad features more clothes, and a different approach, and different matter in the spectrum of animal cruelty.  It's edgy, instantly thought provoking, and a little violent.

In the ad (above) Krysten Ritter, star of "Don't Trust the B," stands next to a car with a busted window, recused dog in one hand, crow bar in the other, and a shadow on the wall with angel wings.  Let's not also forget the sexy ensemble of black and red bodysuit and pumps.

The messages deals with the topic of owners leaving their pets in hot cars, typically with their windows up.

"It's how outside - your car is like a fishbowl.  So the light comes in, and it gets trapped, and it gets really hot in there really quickly" says Ritter.  And it's true.  So true that an animal can actually die in a matter of minutes from heat stroke.

She later suggests that if you see a dog, (or really any animal or child for that matter) locked in a hot car and you think it is in danger, speak up.  Go to whatever business the car is parked in front of and raise some awareness.

But what do you think of the ad?  Do you think it's effectively communicating the message?  Or too extreme?  Tell us!

MTV VMA Awards 2013 Red Carpet Review!

Well the MTV VMA Awards 2013 happened last night in Brooklyn, New York... oh yes... they happened!  Did you tune in?

Whether or not you watched, I'm sure by now you've been bombarded with photos and GIFs all over social media about the antics and most talked about moments of the evening... twerking on Beetlejuice anyone?

And while some performances left viewers in awe (Justin Timberlake's 17 minute performance extravaganza) some left us inspired (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis) and some just left us (fill in the blank) there was certainly no shortage of similar moments on the red carpet.  I must say, I was both wowed, and a little underwhelmed with some of the looks that I saw, a little surprised that some of the stars went more subdued this year.  I mean, who wasn't expecting more shock on the red carpet from ladies like Miley and Gaga?  But, of course, the provided those moments during their performance, which was perhaps the point.

All in all, who were your favorites?  Who do you think was best dressed and worst?

Balmain: Resort 2014

Balmain is known for its bold and unwavering style, and this season is definitely a prime example of what they're known for. Exaggeration of classic prints and fabrics are topped with gold-toned accessories down to the shoes to perfectly compliment the look. The collection flirted with quilted fabrics, houndstooth print, even as far as to utilizing denim overalls and jumpers! Strong silhouettes seem to be the main focus of this set, with traces of lace and ruffled frills to play along with an androgynous theme. Wide gold cuffs and chained accessories were icing on the cake, proving their high fashion look is more of a dare for the bold and daring.

Take a look, and be mesmerized by the intensity this collection displays outfit after outfit.

Fall Cover Up

Now sure a woman outfit and style is always a priority, but what about what is carried in a woman's make up bag. Fall is near and its time to see what is trending with celebs and their make up. For instance their eye shadow, eye liner, and lip shade.

Cat eye: Cat eyes give the face an extra pop. Natural face make up with bold black liner is always appealing and can be fixed with just about every style whether you dress punk or contemporary.

Red lipstick: Never fails. With a little help you can find your perfect shade. Every woman should have a red lipstick, and if you're unsure on what looks best a barely there natural face with red lipstick will turn heads.

Orange Fall: Unsure of what shades to wear this season? Try a pop of orange eye shadow. The endless beauty Scarlett Johansson portrays the perfect way to pair up orange eye shadow with cat eye liner. For a modern facial look wear minimal make up with the shadow for a basic pop.

Glittery Eyes: Feeling fancy, shine up your look with glitter eye shadow/shimmer. The shimmer and eyeliner is the perfect combination. You have bold and sexy with glitz and glam. What more can you ask for? I'd say after you have those two paired all you'll need is a LBD with pumps and you're date ready.

Gray Scale: Another fall shade is gray, and can be paired with eyeliner and glitter; depending on the occasion.

So what do you like? These are just a few ideas that could help complete an outfit of your choice this fall. Also, a little heads up on what shades and styles are in this fall.

The Season Ahead of Us

Alexander McQueen has a simple but also very flattering style prepared for us in the near Spring/Summer season. The style has a fun and simple short trench coat style with tie around waist for a flattering fit. The style can easily be imitated with a short trench style coat and crochet dress for layering. Another approach can be patch work denim and funky fun hippie pants. Try a natural hair style with minimal make up and neutral tone sandals with a chunky heel. Also, combine crochet style dresses with hippie floral print for a fun McQueen inspired style.

ACNE Autumn/Winter 2013-14

Inspired by Musee Galleria's archive, Johansson collaborated with artist Katerina Jebb, and created a bold new look. ACNE never fails to flaunt the usual minimalist, prep for autumn and winter with baggy trousers and boxy jackets. Flip up your style with accents inspired by ACNE, such as adding boxy/leather jackets to your outfit or styling up in a single color for a similar ACNE minimalist style!
